  1. Learning inside, and outside, of the classroom

Traditional brick-and-mortar classrooms are slowly becoming a relic of the past. Digital creation tools like VR headsets and 3D printers, technology and moveable furniture are making learning outside of the classroom less formal and more interactive. Check out Duke Uni who are using robots to engage online nursing students in lifelike clinical simulations.

  2. Artificial intelligence

As well as streamlining processes for the staff, AI brings perks for students too. Ever spoken to a chatbot when online shopping? These clever automated messenger bots will soon help with interactive tutoring and 24/7 instant responses so you don’t have to wait in line before class.  A great example is Deakin University’s use of IBM Watson.

  3. Virtual/augmented/mixed reality

Combining AI with augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) will completely transform how you interact with your devices. Imagine attending lectures virtually or being able to see the information you’re reading about.

  4. Gaming and simulation

Simulation allows students to learn by doing.  Virtual game worlds allow you to practice real-life scenarios and learn from your mistakes interactively and in a safe environment such as the Forensic Health Care Simulation created by Drexel Uni.

  5. Adaptive learning

Adaptive learning means your learning experience will be tailored for you! You’ll be able to pick and choose your preferred level of support and learning pace. A forerunner to watch is Osmosis, now being used in hundreds of medical schools.
