A number of our recent investments highlight our philosophy of seeking out investments that are sustainable, generate jobs and contribute to a more productive economy. They also support the communities where our members live, work and retire.

Oak Tree Retirement Villages

We own a majority investment in the Oak Tree Group, which owns, develops and
manages retirement villages throughout the east coast of Australia. The  Queensland-based group has established a portfolio of 31 retirement villages located from Cairns to Hobart, including villages located in Armidale, Orange, Tamworth, Toowoomba and Brisbane, with the business poised for further expansion.

Investment date: June 2017

Returns to members: The bulk of returns will come from income we receive from residents and development profits.

NSW Fire & Rescue Academy

This world-class training facility is located in Sydney’s west and is instrumental in training and supporting the next generation of emergency workers. Formally opened by Emergency Services Minister, Troy Grant in July 2018, the academy plays an important role in training firefighters and  boosting the economy of Sydney’s western region.

Investment date: May 2016

Returns to members: Returns will come from the state government as a secure long-term tenant.

NSW Ambulance & Toll Helicopters – Aeromedical Training and Services Facility

This new training centre is one of the most advanced aeromedical training facilities in the world. Located in Sydney’s Bankstown Airport, it will become a base for emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, passenger transfer and logistics support.

Investment date: June 2016

Returns to members: Returns will come from a secure long-term tenant.

GO NSW Equity Fund (Jobs for NSW)

We have partnered with ROC Partners to develop the GO NSW Equity Fund (Go NSW), providing expansion capital to smaller companies that have reached, or are close to reaching, commercialisation.

It focuses on companies embarking on new growth initiatives with positive socio-economic benefits, such as jobs creation, regional growth or building intellectual property. Target industry sectors include: food and agribusiness; tourism; smart cities infrastructure; and advanced manufacturing, among others.

Two examples of investments made to date are:

1. Australia’s Oyster Coast (AOC)

AOC is a company of over 45 leading oyster farms on the NSW South Coast. Our investment in AOC will deliver returns to our members and provide capital to help expand an important regional industry. The investment will increase employment from 19 to 75 staff, with 40 of these being new, full-time, regional jobs.

Returns to members: Returns will come from supporting entrepreneurs to create scale, access new markets and educate growth strategies across a range of sectors.

2. Stone Axe Pastoral

Stone Axe Pastoral is an Australian Wagyu beef agribusiness with operations in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, and Western Australia. Our investment in Stone Axe Pastoral is expected to create 76 full-time jobs over a five-year period and
provides the capital a company needs to develop the largest full-blood Wagyu
cattle herd outside Japan.

Investment date: February 2018
